Skills Classes are Seasonal- offered in Fall, Winter and Springtime. They are for boys and girls (co-ed), ages 6 to 14 years old. They are for ALL SKILL LEVELS- beginner to advanced. They offer a safe environment for kis to be professionally mentored in every aspect of the game. Kids work each week on individual and team concepts: ball-handling, dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, offense and defensive cuts and positioning. Footwork is where it all starts. Once they learn these solid fundamentals, they can play for any team! And, even better, when they show up to play in any League, they will understand first how to play! To ensure individualized attention, kids are broken up into small groups of no more than 7:1 ratio (kids to coach). Our staff is made up of current and former basketball players, coaches and/or referees who both love basketball; and who love and can effectively teach children! All coaching is in a Christ-Centered environment, encouraging kids to work hard, have good sportsmanship, and be disciplined team players and people of honesty and integrity.
Head Coach Heidi Burge Horton, former Olympic Circuit, Division 1 Collegiate and Professional Player overseas and in the WNBA has coached children for 35 years. She has two children of her own. She played for the LA Sparks and the Washington Mystics. She is owner and director of Hoops School here in Houston, Texas since May, 2000.

**This league is NOT not for beginners. Players are required to know the basics of the game and be able play fundamental basketball (know the essentials of offense, defense, shooting, passing, etc).
All kids register online individually. If you know your “teammate requests,” simply indicate on the REGISTRATION FORM (per your grade level division). Teams are suggested to have a total of up to 4 players. Referees coach/ref each night (they instruct while refereeing). Kids are guaranteed a minimum of 6 half-court games nightly. No coaches are provided on the court besides Ref/Coaches. Kids name their own team and set their own plays. Games played in one gym, at 4 separate baskets. Round Robbin point totals determines “seed”/pool for Championship play-off. “Championship Day” is the last night of class.
Medals are awarded to Gold, Silver and Bronze champions.

Our Next “Get Ready “Coach/Player Clinics are in December. Details below…
Coach clinicsare for parent/volunteer coaches who want to receive strategies to properly and effectively coach their youth basketball teams. Coaches receive a handout, complete with a “tool box” of drills and appropriate goals and methods to coach their respective age groups, from Kinder-8th Grade kids. Coach Heidi (35 years experience) does all instruction live (in-person); and shares helpful websites where coaches can harvest plays, drills, defensive sets and other extremely useful information.
Player Clinics are for beginner or intermediate skill-level players to “Get Ready” for the season. Players work on correct forms of shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defense and “live game situations.” Great way to transition from fall sports into Bball season!
